The developers of Apache Cassandra have released version 0.7 of the highly scalable, column-oriented, NoSQL database.

Among the innovations in version 0.7 is the introduction of secondary indexes, which will improve the efficiency of data queries through node-local storage on the client side, and support for up to two billion columns per row (Large Row Support). Moreover, it is possible to change object definition for the client API s on the fly (Online Schema Changes).

Cassandra was originally developed by Facebook; its users include Digg, Twitter and Reddit.
