Huawei joins the Linux Foundation
The Linux Foundation has announced that Huawei has become its newest member. Founded in 1988, China-based Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd serves 45 of the world's top 50 telecom operators and is known for its mobile communications products, including mobile phones, as well as USB and Wireless 3G modems.
According to the Foundation, Huawei is currently using Linux to develop a variety of network equipment and devices. Huawei sees Linux Foundation membership as an opportunity to collaborate with developers, users and vendors across the globe to advance its work.
Discussing the announcement, Linux Foundation Executive Director Jim Zemlin said, "Linux is providing companies with the opportunity to accelerate technology efforts," adding that, "As a leading telecom company, Huawei will bring important perspective to The Linux Foundation as Linux grows in its ubiquity across mobile devices and telecom infrastructure".
The Linux Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the task of promoting the growth of Linux. Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux, is himself sponsored by the foundation.
