rPath Logo The Linux Foundation, the non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting Linux, has announced that rPath has become its newest member. Located in North Carolina US, rPath is best known for its rBuilder development platform for creating Linux-based software appliances for use on real x86 hardware, as a virtual system or as a cloud application. Amanda McPherson, vice president of marketing and developer programs at the Linux Foundation, said that, “rPath has been blazing a trail in application release and system automation for many years and we’re excited to welcome them as our newest member".

Jake Sorofman, chief marketing officer for rPath says that the company has been "seeing increasing demand for tools that can help provision and maintain Linux-based systems in large-scale physical, virtual and cloud-based environments" and hopes that its Linux Foundation membership will help it "collaborate with the community of vendors, end users and contributors who can help us successfully meet this growing demand". As part of its membership, rPath will contribute to foundation work groups and services to accelerate the adoption of Linux, while also participating in various Linux Foundation events.
