Piwik Logo The Piwik team has announced the release of version 1.3 of its open source web analysis software. According to the developers, the latest release of Piwik is a major update that addresses a number of bugs found in the previous version, adds several new features and brings improved performance.

Piwik 1.3 features the addition of Custom Date Ranges, which the developers say is "one of the most requested features", allowing users to request reports for any custom date range via the User Interface and API. Based on feedback from 'power users', Visits Tracker and Reports Archiving performance has been improved and the Live! real time widget has been updated to better work with high traffic web sites. Other changes include two new Goal Tracking options, allowing users to trigger goals when visitors visit a given page title and goals to be converted more than once per visit. Improvements have also been made to the Tracking API.

The developers also note that the update contains "many database schema changes", telling users to be careful when running the Update script. Users running large Piwik setups are advised to run the Update Script from the Shell.

Once installed on a web server, the PHP-based Piwik software, an alternative to Google Analytics, provides detailed reports on website visitors, including search engines and keywords used, language and the most popular pages.

Additional details about the latest point update can be found in a post on the Piwik blog and in the change log. Version 1.3 of Piwik is available to download (direct download) from the project's site and is licensed under the GPL.
