Piwik Logo The developers behind the open source web analysis suite Piwik are preparing for IPv6. To ensure that it can fully support the protocol by world IPv6 day on 8 June, Piwik 1.4 gets the ability to count IPv6 visitors. IPv6 support is, however, currently still considered to be experimental.

A further new feature is the ability to run automatic reports without the aid of a cron job (many web hosts do not offer cron job capabilities). Piwik is now able to activate time-controlled events using the counter function – once the scheduled time for a job is reached, the next visitor will cause it to be executed. Reports are no longer limited to being generated as PDFs, they can also now be sent by email as HTML files.

A full list of changes and new features can be found in a post on the Piwik blog and in the change log. Piwik 1.4 is available to download (direct download) as a zip file from the project's site and is licensed under the GPL. Users with an existing Piwik installation who have granted the tool write privileges for the installation folder can also use the one-click update option in the web interface.
