Ubuntu 12.04 LTS released - Precise Pangolin published
The latest long term support (LTS) release of Ubuntu Linux, code-named Precise Pangolin, has now been released by the Canonical and Ubuntu developers. The LTS versions of Ubuntu are now supported for five years on the desktop and server, so 12.04 LTS is expected to be in service for quite a while.
As an LTS release, the focus in development has been on polishing the enhancements that have been made in Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat), 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) and 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot), including the sometimes controversial Unity desktop, which has been one of the biggest changes in how people use Ubuntu. In 12.04 LTS, it is joined by a new Head Up Display (HUD) menu system. Ubuntu's Server edition has also seen a number of changes, with a switch to the OpenStack cloud platform preparing the way for a cloudy future for the Linux distribution.
