Spring Roo logo The Spring Roo development team has published the first release candidate for version 1.2.0 of its open source rapid application development tool for creating Java apps. Building on the improved performance of the previous milestone build, Roo 1.2.0 RC1 brings improvements to persistence-related annotations and introduces two new features.

Following feedback from the Roo community, the developers have implemented the two most-requested features: support for multi-module Maven projects (ROO-120) and JSF 2.0/PrimeFaces support (ROO-516). The former allows users to create projects that have a parent Project Object Model (POM) with as many project modules as they want, while the latter lets them "scaffold high-quality JSF applications utilizing the stunning components from the PrimeFaces 3.0 component library". Other changes include a new @RooJpaEntity annotation and the renaming of the older @RooEntity annotation to @RooJpaActiveRecord.

Spring Roo 1.2.0 RC1 is available to download from the Spring Community Downloads page. Users are advised to continue using the current stable release, Roo 1.1.5, for production projects. Those testing the release candidate are encouraged to provide feedback and report any bugs that they find.
