Parted Magic The Parted Magic development team has published the second point update to the 6.x branch of its open source, multi-platform partitioning tool. Based on the 2.6.38.8 Linux kernel, it now features the latest 3.0 release of Parted (PARTition and EDitor) – however, it is still linked against version 2.4 the LibParted library, but this should change in a future release.

The ROX desktop now handles the desktop icons and feh is used to display the desktop wallpaper. Package updates include version 0.8.1 of the GNOME Partition Editor (GParted) and the 549 release of the UNetbootin utility for creating LiveUSB systems.

A number of new programs have been added, such as ZFS-fuse 0.7.0. The developers note that they have removed all of "the last bits of ntfsprogs" as NTFS-3G now handles NTFS for TestDisk – NTFS-3G was merged with ntfsprogs in mid-April.

Parted Magic can be used to create, move, delete and resize drive partitions and will run on a machine with as little as 64MB of RAM. File systems supported include NTFS, FAT, ReiserFS, Reiser4 and HFS+. LVM and RAID are also supported.

Further details about the latest release can be found in the official release announcement and in the change log. Parted Magic 6.2 is available to download as an ISO image file. Hosted on SourceForge, Parted Magic is released under version 2 of the GNU General Public Licence (GPLv2).
