Parted Magic logo Version 6.7 of the Parted Magic open source, multi-platform partitioning tool has been released. According to lead developer Patrick J. Verner, the update is a "major enhancement release" that has a number of notable improvements and updates.

Based on the 3.0.4 Linux kernel, Parted Magic 6.7 includes version 0.9.1 of the GNOME Partition Editor (GParted) which resolves an NTFS resize problem. Verner notes that Firefox has been updated to version 6.0.2 with its official branding; the latest release of Firefox is 7.0.1. Other changes include setting CPU frequency scaling to "on-demand" at boot to improve battery life on laptops, OpenSSH 5.9p1 and various other package updates.

For CD/DVD burning, SimpleBurn has been replaced by Xfburn. The legacy version of PCMan File Manager (PCManFM) has also been replaced with a modified version called PCManFM-Mod, addressing a number of bugs "that have existed for years".

More details about the update can be found in the official release announcement and in the change log. Parted Magic 6.7 is available to download as an ISO image file from the project's site. Hosted on SourceForge, Parted Magic is released under the GPLv2.
