Sun Microsystems has announced the availability of the first release candidate (RC1) of version 6.7 of NetBeans, its open source Java development environment. The release candidate, intended as an intermediary release between NetBeans 6.5 and 7.0, focuses on smaller changes, bug fixes and API compatibility.

The integrated development environment (IDE) now includes integration with the Kenai collaboration platform, a Rails-based repository for open source projects. The integration allows a team of developers to create, check out, edit, debug, build and commit code through a single interface. NetBeans 6.7 RC1 adds native support for Maven, GlassFish and Hudson integrations and includes several enhancements to Java, PHP, Ruby, JavaScript, Groovy and C/C++. Support for JavaScript 1.7 and Rich SVG Components in the Visual Mobile Designer have also been added.

More details about the release can be found in the release notes, provided documentation and on the NetBeans wiki. NetBeans 6.7 RC1 is available to download and is made available under a dual licence consisting of the Common Development and Distribution Licence (CDDL) v1.0 and the GNU General Public licence (GPL). An installation guide is also available. The final version of NetBeans 6.7 is expected to be released in late June.
