Sun Microsystems has announced that version 6.7 milestone 2 of NetBeans, their open source Java development environment, has been released. The release comes after Sun had announced that there will be only a minor release of NetBeans in 2009, instead of a major jump from version 6.5 to 7.0. There are a number of feature enhancements in the new version including improvements to Maven and C/C++ support, the Profiler and SVG components.

The integrated development environment (IDE) now gives users the option of activating only the functionalities that they want to use. An enhanced self-diagnostic tool is included to allow users review performance issues or send a report to the NetBeans team for analysis. The Mac OS X version of NetBeans also sports a new look-and-feel.

NetBeans is made available under a dual licence consisting of the Common Development and Distribution Licence v1.0 and the GNU General Public licence (GPL). The new version is available to download now and more details can be found on the NetBeans wiki.
