GitHub announces CodeConf 2011
GitHub has announced that its 2011 CodeConf conference will take place on 9 and 10 April in San Francisco at the Hyatt Regency. Focused on social coding, the event will include presentations from a number of well-known speakers, various sessions on software development and parties both nights – details about the parties will be posted soon.
Confirmed speakers for the conference include award-winning author, blogger and programmer, Gina Trapani, WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg, node.js creator Ryan Dahl as well as Django co-creator and lead developer Jacob Kaplan-Moss. Other speakers include Spacehack.org founder Ariel Waldman, Engine Yard VP Dr. Nic Williams and Instagram developer Mike Krieger. The organisers note that they are still finalising the list of speakers and more will be added. Additionally, breakfast, lunch and dinner for both days are included in the cost of a CodeConf pass.
GitHub provides hosted repositories for Git, the distributed revision control system developed by Linus Torvalds, enhancing the system with its own web front-end and tools. GitHub has become one of the most active venues for open source developers to share, discuss and develop their code, building on Git's ability to allow developers to clone a code repository and work with the code without having to coordinate pushing changes back.
Registration for the conference costs $499 (£308) and only 300 spots are available. For updates and more information on CodeConf 2011, @codeconf can be followed on Twitter.
