O'Reilly announces Android Open conference

O'Reilly Media has announced the launch of a new conference for Google's Android mobile operating system, "Android Open", which it describes as the first "big tent" Android-only conference. It will take place from 9 to 11 October 2011 at the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco, California.

Announcing the conference, O'Reilly's Brady Forrest said: "Android Open is the first conference to cover the entire Android ecosystem, from building and marketing Android apps to what goes on under the hood". The event will feature app and hardware showcases, and three tracks of sessions: App Development, Platform Development and Marketing & Business. Confirmed speakers include Flurry CTO & Co-Founder Sean Byrnes, CommonsWare founder Mark Murry, Marakana CTO Aleksander Gargenta, Intel's Mark Gross, Opersys CEO Karmin Yaghmour and Handy Codeworks Founder Frank Maker.

O'Reilly also said that its Call for Participation (CFP) is now open. Suggested themes for proposals include building Android apps, development frameworks, Android internals, making Android beautiful, tablets and large screen devices, gaming, enterprise solutions, and selling apps and alternative stores. Submissions can be made via an online web form (log-in required). The deadline for submissions is 1 June.
