Zoom The GNOME Developer Center is open to help.
In conjunction with the release of GNOME 3, the GNOME Project has opened the GNOME Developer Center to help new developers find their way around the desktop environment's technologies. The centre includes instructions on how to install tools for GNOME development, along with "ten minute tutorials" for C, C++, JavaScript, Python and Vala, covering the creation of, as examples, a guitar tuner, image viewer, WebKit-based Message board and a Clutter-based Image viewer.

The site also includes an overview of the various GNOME technologies, from GTK+, Clutter, WebKit and GStreamer to Cairo, GDK and Pango. Searchable API documentation and guides and references are also available through the centre.

The site is a work in progress, according to GNOME developer Johannes Schmid, who noted in a blog posting that, for example, API documentation for languages which use introspection, such as JavaScript and Python, is missing. Schmid thanked all the contributors who helped create the site and its content and says that the site is "just the first step to make GNOME 3 a great developer platform".
