First milestone in Univention Corporate Server 3.0

Milestone 1 of Univention Corporate Server 3.0 (UCS) is now available to download. The preview version is designed to give partner firms an opportunity to ensure that their software will be compatible with the new version of UCS. The first milestone of UCS 3.0 is based on Debian 6.0 and already contains most of the functions that Univention has planned for version 3.0.

In addition to version 3 of Samba, it also includes a development version of Samba 4, which UCS can use to provide Active Directory features. In mixed environments, UCS 3.0 can also serve as a domain controller. Testers can also take a look at the new Univention Management Console (UMC).

Questions about the milestones are answered in the German language Univention ForumGerman language link; an English language forum was launched in July. Instructions for upgrading from UCS 2.4 can be found in the Univention Wiki, which also contains information about development, including a roadmap. A release candidate is expected on 27 October, with the release version due in the middle of November.
