Univention Corporate Server 3 released

German open source company Univention has released version 3 of its Corporate Server (UCS), which can now be used as an active directory domain controller. A developer version of Samba 4 has been included to provide this functionality, but users can still install the stable series 3 packages of Samba if required.

The administrative interface has been completely revised. The new web interface combines the functions of the Univention Management Console and those of the Univention Directory Manager in an Ajax-based interface. It also includes a new module for a range of settings that needed to be adjusted during installation in the previous version. The new module is designed to help administrators create quick duplicates of physical and virtual systems and configure them individually.

Source: Univention The basic system is now based on Debian 6.0 (Squeeze) and, for the first time, Univention is providing its customers with nearly all of the packages from the Debian repositories – except those in the "games" category. The developers have also updated their distribution to the current versions of the Xen and KVM virtualisation solutions as well as the Nagios monitoring software. UCS has also been extended to support IPv6.
