Univention has released version 3.1 of its Univention Corporate Server (UCS). The server distribution offers Active-Directory-compatible domain services using Samba 4. The new Univention App Centre simplifies the installation of third-party products such as groupware, document management and backup solutions; the app catalogue provides an overview of available applications.

A new tool simplifies the migration from Microsoft Active Directory to Samba 4, for example by migrating the User, Machine and Group Policies from the Active Directory environment to UCS's Samba directory service. This allows administrators to replace an Active Directory server with a UCS one.

The software that is included in Univention Corporate Server 3.1 has been updated, and UEFI support is now available. The revised user interface of the UCS user and domain management system can now be customised by selecting preferred management modules. A new network configuration module is designed to simplify network configuration, particularly for virtualised guest operating systems.

UCS 3.1 is available for 32- and 64-bit x86 systems; trial versions can be downloaded free of charge. For 50 employees, the Univention Corporate Server costs €985 with installation support and €1,885 with a standard support and one-year maintenance agreement. An overview of all new features can be found in the release notes PDF German language link. The software is licensed under a combination of the GPL and AGPL; source code is available from the Univention servers.
