Clonezilla Live and Parted Magic updated
The Clonezilla and Parted Magic developers have released updated versions of their specalist Linux distributions for hard disk partitioning and duplication. The 1.2.12-60 release of Clonezilla Live upgrades its underlying OS to the unstable branch of Debian (known as "Sid") from 25 May and is built on the 3.2.18-1 Linux kernel. The Partclone partition image utility has been upgraded to the latest 0.2.48 stable release from the end of May, while gdisk has been updated to version 0.8.4. The major update also re-enables support for the VMware vSphere 5.0 filesystem (VMFS-5) and includes several updated translations.
The update to Parted Magic, labelled "2012_05_30", comes just two weeks after the previous release and focuses on fixing several bugs, while also updating and adding new programs. These include the Shorewall gateway and firewall configuration tool, and the pyNeighborhood SMB/CIFS browsing utility. Version 0.97.4 of the ClamAV anti-virus, OpenSSH 6.0p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8x and version 1.42.3 of the e2fsprogs filesystem utilities are among the included package upgrades. To improve reliability, the download Java program has also been completely rewritten.
More details about the updates can be found in the change logs for Clonezilla Live 1.2.12-60 (download) and Parted Magic 2012_05_30 (download). Clonezilla and Parted Magic are both hosted on SourceForge, and are licensed under the GPLv2.
