Appcelerator Inc has announced that its open source Appcelerator Titanitum applications framework and runtime will be supporting Apple's iPad tablet device. The Appcelerator Titanium framework allows developers to create applications for the desktop or for mobile devices using web technology including HTML, JavaScript, Python, Ruby and PHP. The iPad support makes use of Appcelerator Mobile's existing support for creating native applications for Apple's iPhone.

Appcelerator had surveyed developers who use its framework and found that ninety per cent of them were planning to produce applications for the, at the time unnamed, Apple tablet this year. Within hours of the launch of the iPad, Appcelerator developers showed a screenshot of an Appcelerator technology demo running on the iPad simulator which comes with Apple's iPad SDK.

Appcelerator Titanium for the desktop and mobile devices is available as open source code and made available under the Apache 2.0 licence.
