Alfresco Alfresco, which offers its own open source enterprise content management (ECM) solution, has announced the launch of a new Cloud Content Application Developer Program. The new program, built on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), allows Alfresco's customers to "develop, deploy and monetise cloud service architecture (CSA) content applications". According to Alfresco, one of the primary advantages of a cloud-based solution is the low cost. Alfresco Software CEO John Powell said “Content growth requires a sophisticated ECM solution that can scale users and content volumes simply and at low cost without massive up-front capital expenditure".

A 32-bit Amazon Machine Image (AMI) of "Alfresco 3.2 Community Edition" 1.0 built on Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 6 is available for interested developers and a demonstration video is also provided. Alfresco will offer a subscription plan for users wanting Enterprise 24/7 support. According to the Cloud Content Application Developer Program wiki, version 1.1 is expected to be available on the 23rd of October, 2009.
