McAfee logo Intel's McAfee unit has acquired NitroSecurity, a privately held SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) provider for an undisclosed sum. Originally founded in 1999, NitroSecurity is based in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, with offices throughout the US and UK. The company mainly develops high-performance tools to identify and eliminate security threats within enterprises.

NitroSecurity logo McAfee and NitroSecurity have been in a "Security Innovation Alliance" for the past three years, and McAfee has also recently been using NitroSecurity's software in-house. Current NitroSecurity employees will become part of McAfee's Risk and Compliance unit, while their SIEM technology will be integrated within McAfee's ePolicy Orchestrator range. In its official press release, NitroSecurity stated that its "leadership position in the SIEM market will help McAfee significantly expand its Risk and Compliance and Global Threat Intelligence capabilities."

McAfee's purchase of NitroSecurity is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2011. Founded in 1987, McAfee was acquired by Intel in 2010; the purchase was completed earlier this year for $7.68 billion.
