Anonymous Flag The Italian police say that they have arrested a group of hackers with suspected links to the Anonymous activist group. On Tuesday (5 July), the Italian news agency Ansa reported that the 26-year-old group leader and 14 other group members, including five minors, were arrested after searches of 32 homes in Italy and Switzerland.

The suspects are accused of having been involved in attacks on systems – including those of the Italian senate and government – since January. Furthermore, the Italian police say that the hackers are responsible for computer attacks on the systems of the regulatory authority and on those of various TV stations, as well as commercial enterprises.

According to an Italian language report by the La Repubblica newspaper, the group used dedicated servers, some of which they rented abroad. In total, about 30 suspects are being investigated. They have been accused of unauthorised intrusion into, and damage to, computer systems and disrupting public services.
