Anonymous Flag Following a hacker attack on Turkish government web sites, the Turkish police have announced that they have made the first arrests. According to a Turkish language report by the Anadolu news agency, a total of 32 suspects have been arrested in a police operation that took place in twelve cities. Those arrested are suspected of having links to Anonymous.

Members of the Anonymous activist group are believed to be responsible for the attack on Turkish government web sites last Thursday. Anonymous had previously announced "Operation Turkey", which was reportedly intended as a protest against the internet filters the Turkish government is planning to implement. Among the targets was the web site of the Turkish telecommunications agency, Telekomünikasyon İletişim Başkanlığı (TIB), which is responsible for the planned introduction of the internet filters in August.

Last week, the Spanish authorities arrested three suspects who they believed to be "leaders" of Anonymous in Spain. The suspects were reportedly involved in the attacks on the Sony PlayStation Network and on the Spanish Central Election Committee. After the arrests, Anonymous temporarily crippled the web siteSpanish language link of the Spanish police with a Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack.
