LG Logo The Linux Foundation, the non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting Linux, has announced that LG Electronics has become its newest member. LG is best known for consumer electronics and its mobile devices, such as mobile phones. The company says that, "Linux is naturally positioned to usher in the connected world of computing and LG’s participation in the Linux Foundation will help advance the operating system."

The company is attending the invitation-only 2010 Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit this week. Amanda McPherson, vice president of marketing and developer programs at the Linux Foundation, said that, “LG Electronics is joining a growing number of companies who see the unique value that Linux brings to the future of computing, where there are many different devices that are always connected."

A number of companies have joined the Linux Foundation in the weeks leading up to the annual Summit, including Meyer Sound, Parallels, Ricoh and Linpus Technologies.
