After nearly a year of discussion, openSUSE members are now set to vote on the distribution's future strategy and focus. The strategy team calls openSUSE the "most flexible and powerful Linux distribution" and the goal of the project is to "promote the use of Linux everywhere." At the centre of the project is the openSUSE community, which works productively with other open projects; the Community Statement, which is part of the overall strategy, describes how the community sees itself.

The strategy paper also specifies targets, such as a wide range of software and "rolling releases" for users who want to keep their applications up to date. The strategy also discusses what openSUSE does not want to be – for instance, the flexibility of configurations is not to be limited in order to increase user-friendliness.

openSUSE members have until the end of June to vote on the strategy. If an absolute majority supports the strategy, it will be adopted.
