The openSUSE development team have announced the availability of the second and final release candidate for openSUSE 11.2, code named Fichte. The development release includes a number of bug fixes, changes and package updates.

openSUSE 11.2 RC2 features version 2.6.31.5 of the Linux kernel and X.org Server 1.6.5. New package updates and additions include version 2.0 of Mozilla's SeaMonkey "all-in-one internet application suite", Firefox 3.5.4 and Samba 3.4.2.

According to the developers, the release "should be almost ready for the gold master stamp, but there’s still time to shake out remaining bugs". As with all development releases, use in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. The developers encourage users that find any bugs in the final release candidate to report them.

More details about the release, including a list of the Most Annoying Bugs, can be found in the change log. openSUSE 11.2 RC2 is available to download for 32 and 64 bit x86 systems as a DVD or LiveCD image from the project's developer/get it section. An overview of the planned features for the final openSUSE 11.2 release can be found on the distributions own feature-tracking system, called OpenFate. The final version of openSUSE 11.2 is expected to be available in November.
