jQuery 1.6 nears with first beta
The first beta for version 1.6 of jQuery has been released. jQuery is a JavaScript library that simplifies HTML document traversing, event handling, animation and Ajax interactions for rapid web development.
According to the developers, jQuery 1.6 Beta 1 features a number of changes over the previous version, including various optimisations, as well as bug fixes ranging from problems with Internet Explorer 9 and Safari, to memory leaks. A feature/change spreadsheet with all of the proposed changes for jQuery 1.6 is provided on Google Docs. Based on the jQuery Roadmap, the final version of jQuery 1.6 is expected to arrive later this month.
Users testing the release are encouraged to provide feedback and report any bugs that they encounter.
Details about the beta can be found in a post on the jQuery blog. The dual licensed (MIT/GPLv2) jQuery 1.6 Beta 1 is available now from the jQuery content delivery network at the URL code.jquery.com/jquery-1.6b1.js. The latest stable release is version 1.5.2, a bug fix release from late March.
