The developers of the Mageia Linux distribution have announced the third beta of their upcoming Mageia 2 release which was originally scheduled for 14 April. According to the announcement, this latest release still has problems, especially with the drivers for all three major graphic card makes. The developers expect to have these bugs fixed by the time the release candidate arrives in two weeks.

New features in beta 3 include an updated Linux kernel (now at version 3.3.1), KDE SC 4.8.2 and updates to several other included packages. Users who want to test Mageia 2 beta 3 are advised that this is an experimental release for testing only and should not be used in production environments. Users with inegrated Intel graphics and an ATI graphics card might need to boot with the rdloaddriver=radeon boot parameter to get this release to work properly on their systems. Users of certain NVIDIA cards might similarly need to boot with the xdriver=nouveau parameter to use the beta 3 live CD.

More information on Mageia 2 beta 3 can be found in the official release notes. According to the revised release schedule for Mageia 2, the final release will now be delivered on 15 May, with a single release candidate being planned for 2 May.
