Zend Logo Zend Technologies, a major contributor to the development of PHP, has released version 1.11 of its Zend Framework for PHP development. With the new version, the developers of the PHP framework wanted to take a decisive step towards mobile technologies and cloud computing.

One of their goals was to optimise web applications for mobile devices. The new release is said to enable mobile devices and development platforms for detection via the web, which requires such capabilities as automatic screen size detection. Supported platforms include Google's Android mobile OS, BlackBerry, as well as Windows Phone 7 in the near future. Apple's iPhone / iOS, which requires native applications, is to be supported via web services.

The new release supports the Simple Cloud API, which provides application portability across various cloud platforms. Zend started the development of the programming interface in co-operation with IBM and Microsoft, as well as other cloud specialists in September 2009. The developers have called the latest version of the API the first stable implementation.

Further functions affect the compatibility with the MariaDB and SimpleDB databases, the support of the eBay Findings API and the upgrade to Dojo 1.5.0. Additionally, the developers patched various framework classes to eliminate the potential for attacks.
