Zend Framework logo Zend, the PHP company, has announced the availability of version 1.9 of the open source Zend Framework. The first release in the 1.9 development branch adds support for PHP 5.3.0 which was published at the end of June and, according to the announcement, continues to support PHP 5.2.4 and above. The new Zend_Rest_Route component allows developers to quickly create and develop RESTful MVC (model###minus[view]minus###controller) applications. Support for messaging and queue services, such as Amazon SQS, MemcacheQ and Apache's ActiveMQ, is also included.

LDAP support has been improved and now allows connectivity with MS ActiveDirectory and Novell's eDirectory and the Zend_Feed_Reader component provides a common API to Atom and RSS feeds. DBUnit support has been added to Zend_Test and integrates with Zend_Db, allowing for functional and integration testing against databases using data fixtures.

More details about the release can be found in the change log and in the release announcement. Version 1.9.0 is available to download and includes over 700 changes since the release of 1.8.0. The Zend Framework is released under the New BSD License.
