XBMC Logo The XBMC team has announced the first release candidate of version 11 of its media centre software, code-named "Eden". XBMC 11 is introducing an iOS port, Slingbox playback, ISO image file playback for Blu-ray discs, a JSON API, a new default skin, AirPlay/AirTunes, and improved support for ARM, OpenGL ES and EGL, touch and mouse control. RC1 fixes several bugs from the preceding beta 3 release and introduces an IP weather look-up feature that enables fresh installs of XBMC to automatically detect a user's location and display the appropriate weather information.

The developers noted that they have discovered a major bug in the RC1 release that can introduce significant video lag in certain situations and that they are already working on a RC2 release to remedy these issues. Users should expect this release shortly.

XBMC is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X, several Linux distributions, Apple TV, and as a standalone live CD image. More detailed information on the changes introduced in RC1 can be found in the release notes on the project's web site. XBMC is licensed under the GPLv2.
