openSUSE Logo The openSUSE developers have issued the first release candidate (RC) for version 11.3 of their openSUSE operating system. A second release candidate for the popular Linux distribution is scheduled to be released on July 1st and the final version of openSUSE 11.3 is due on the 15th of July.

The 11.3 release of openSUSE will be based on the 2.6.34 Linux kernel and feature support for the Btrfs file system via the installer. Other changes include the integration of the Nouveau driver to improve support for NVIDIA graphics cards, improved netbook support and several KDE, GNOME and LXDE desktop updates and changes. As with all development releases, use in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. Users testing the release are encouraged to provide feedback and report any bugs that they encounter.

More details about the release, including a list of the Most Annoying Bugs, can be found in the official release announcement and change log. openSUSE 11.3 RC1 is available to download for 32 and 64-bit x86 systems as a DVD or LiveCD image from the projects developer / get it section. The latest stable release of openSUSE is version 11.2 from November of last year.
