Wine Logo The Wine project development team has issued version 1.3.15 of Wine, the latest development version for what will eventually become Wine 1.4. Wine (Wine Is Not an Emulator) is free open source software that allows users to run Windows applications on Linux and Unix by providing its own native replacements for Windows DLLs.

Wine 1.3.15 features the addition of reflection support in the Direct3D shader compiler, as well as support for changing network passwords. Other changes include MSHTML and MSXML improvements, and various bug fixes. The developers also note that the test suite no longer attempts to cope with Windows 9x behaviour. As with all development releases, use of Wine 1.3.15 in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. Users testing the release are encouraged to provide feedback and report any bugs that they encounter.

Further details about the development preview, including a full list of bug fixes, can be found in the release notes and in the short log. Wine 1.3.15 is available to download from one of the project's mirrors and documentation is provided. The latest stable version is Wine 1.2.2, a bug fix update to the 1.2 branch from mid-October of last year.

Wine source code is available from SourceForge and is licensed under the LGPL. The Wine Project is sponsored by CodeWeavers, which also shares its own code updates with the Project.
