Wine Logo Two weeks after Wine 1.3.16 integrated version 2.0 of the Mozilla Gecko engine found in the Firefox 4 web browser, the Wine project development team has issued version 1.3.17, the latest development version for what will eventually become Wine 1.4.

Wine 1.3.17 features support for the file dialogues introduced in Windows Vista, as well as initial support for patching in MSI installers – tools for creating MSI installers were added in 1.3.13. Other changes include calendar control improvements, updates to the built-in application menus and fixes for various bugs found in the previous version, including some affecting file associations.

As with all development releases, use of Wine 1.3.17 in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. Users testing the release are encouraged to provide feedback and report any bugs that they encounter.

Full details about the development preview, including a full of list changes and bug fixes, can be found in the release notes and in the short log. Wine 1.3.17 is available to download from one of the project's mirrors and documentation is provided. The latest stable version is Wine 1.2.2, a bug fix update to the 1.2 branch from mid-October of last year.
