VirtualBox logo The VirtualBox project has published a sixth update to the 4.1.x branch of its open source desktop virtualisation application for x86 hardware. Version 4.1.12 of VirtualBox is a maintenance release that includes updated Guest Additions and improves the overall stability of the software by fixing bugs found in the previous build.

Linux Guest Additions include compilation fixes for the Linux 3.4-RC1 kernel, while the Windows Additions now set the correct time stamp when closing a file. Other changes include fixes for the virtual machine monitor (VMM), the VBoxManage command-line interface to VirtualBox and the VBoxSVC SMF service wrapper. Three crashing bugs affecting audio handling, the Host Guest Communication Manager (HGCM) and the VBoxService have also been corrected.

A complete list of changes and fixes in the update can be found in the change log. Version 4.1.12 of VirtualBox is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and Solaris from the project's site; a user manual is provided. Binaries and source code for VirtualBox are distributed under the terms of the GPLv2; the Extension Pack, which adds support for USB 2.0 and remote boot, can be downloaded under a Personal Use and Evaluation (PUEL) licence.
