Parted Magic lead developer Patrick Verner has announced the arrival of a "super duper program update release" of his open source, multi-platform partitioning tool. Labelled "2012_04_21", the new version of the Linux distribution for disk partitioning and data recovery is based on the 3.2.15 kernel and upgrades more than 25 of the bundled programs and utilities.

These include version 1.42.2 of the e2fsprogs filesystem utilities, GNU Parted 3.1, Clonezilla 1.2.12-37 and version 0.12.1 of the Gnome PARTition EDitor (GParted). The NTFS-3G read/write driver, the TestDisk and data recovery tools, the flashrom utility for flash chips and smartmontools have also been upgraded to the latest stable versions. Other changes include the addition of new "nopmodules" and "noscripts" kernel command line options, and fixes for some wireless device drivers as well as problems when resizing FAT16/32 partitions.

A full list of changes and program updates can be found on the news page and in the change log. Parted Magic 2012_04_21 is available from the project's downloads page. Hosted on SourceForge, Parted Magic is licensed under the GPLv2.
