SeaMonkey 2.0 RC2 arrives
The Mozilla developers have announced the availability of the second release candidate of version 2.0 of its SeaMonkey "all-in-one internet application suite". The successor to the old Netscape Communicator and Mozilla Application suites includes a web browser with advanced email and newsgroup support, an IRC chat client and HTML editing support.
The SeaMonkey 2.0 RC2 development release is based on the same browser core as Firefox 3.5.4, which is expected to be released tomorrow. SeaMonkey 2.0 includes several new features, such as support for HTML 5 tags, improved JavaScript performance and off line data storage for applications. Other notable improvements include a new download manager that supports cross-session resumable downloads, Thunderbird based RSS and Atom feed support in the MailNews component and support for mail archiving.
More details about the release can be found in the SeaMonkey 2.0 preliminary release notes (RCs don't receive separate release notes) and the preliminary change log. SeaMonkey 2.0 RC2 is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. As SeaMonkey 2.0 is based on the 3.5.x branch of Firefox, the developers note that it no longer supports Windows 95, 98, ME, NT or Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther). The final version of SeaMonkey 2.0 is scheduled to be released "no earlier than October 26th".
SeaMonkey binaries are released under the Mozilla SeaMonkey End-User Software License Agreement and the source code is released under disjunctive tri-licensing that includes the Mozilla Public Licence, GPLv2 and LGPLv2.1.
