Quest to combine Oracle with Hadoop
Quest Software has announced a new partnership with Cloudera to create an Oracle connector for the Apache Hadoop database. The tool, code named "Ora-Oop", is to compliment Cloudera's existing open source "Sqoop" tool, which uses JDBC to import data from various databases into Hadoop.
The new tool not only handles data transfers, but also implements the meta information in Hadoop classes, allowing applications to be run with Oracle as well as Hadoop. Ora-Oop is to ensure that data can be exchanged equally well in both directions. The software is scheduled to become available free of charge at Quest.com and as part of Cloudera's Hadoop distribution by the end of the year.
Developed for managing large amounts of data, Hadoop follows the MapReduce model rather than the classic relational paradigm.
