Perl 5.10.1 RC2 released
The release of Perl 5.10.1's second release candidate and a declaration by Dave Mitchell that "I'm not planning to change anything between now and final release unless it's a real show stopper" indicate that the latest version of Perl 5 is close to release. The second release candidate has been uploaded to CPAN for Perl developers to test.
According to the perldelta (What is new for 5.10.1) Perl 5.10.1 will have a number of incompatible changes, including changes to the switch statement and smart matching. It will also include a number of enhancements, such as an updated Unicode character database, some support for DTrace and the addition of Bzip2 compression to the core modules. Perl is dual-licensed under the GPLv2 or the Artistic Licence.
