The PCLinuxOS developers have announced the release of their quarterly updates to PCLinuxOS, PCLinuxOS 2009.2 and PCLinuxOS GNOME 2009.2. The 2009.2 updates, available as ISO image files for burning to CD, feature a new notification-updater to alert users when updates are available for their installation. Also included is GetOpenOffice, which allows users to install OpenOffice 3.1 in any of the 104 available languages. PCLinuxOS 2009.2 also updates several pre-installed applications included with the distribution, such as Firefox 3.0.11, Thunderbird 2.0.0.22 and AbiWord. Although PCLinuxOS 2009.2 uses the same 3.5.10 release of KDE included in 2009.1, the GNOME version of 2009.2 includes the updated 2.26.2 release of the GNOME desktop environment.

The distribution's goal is to be "radically simple" and easy to use. PCLinuxOS includes access to a large online repository with over 8,000 additional packages that can be installed through the Synaptic Software Manager.

More details about the releases can be found in the release announcement. The PCLinux 2009.2 and PCLinuxOS GNOME 2009 ISO images are available to download. According to the announcement, the 2009.3 ISO release will feature KDE4, GCC4.4 and an updated Linux kernel.
