Mono 2.0 beta and MonoDevelop 1.0 release imminent
On March 14, the developers of the open source alternative to .NET plan to release a beta version of Mono. The test release supports Microsoft's .NET 2.0. The release of version 1.0 of the MonoDevelop environment for Gnome is also planned for that Friday. The tool, which is specially designed for programming in C# and other .NET languages, is also equipped to handle other languages. It reportedly facilitates the porting of .NET applications created with Visual Studio to Linux and Mac OS X.
