A blog post by Mono development team member, Miguel de Icaza, has announced plans to bring a stable version of MonoDevelop to Windows. There is currently an alpha version of MonoDevelop available for Mac OS X.

According to Icaza, Unity Technologies, the developer of Unity, a multi-platform game development tool, has announced that it has chosen MonoDevelop as a standard development environment.

MonoDevelop is an open source GNOME IDE for C# and other .NET languages, although it can be used with any other language. It has similar goals to, and originally was a port of, the SharpDevelop project, which released version 3.0 recently. The current stable version of the IDE is MonoDevelop 1.0 and a first beta of MonoDevelop 2.0 was released under the GPLv2 earlier this month. It requires Mono 2.0, the cross platform open source implementation of the .NET framework.
