Mike Shaver leaves Mozilla

Mike Shaver Mike Shaver, vice president of Technical Strategy at Mozilla, has announced he is leaving after six years at the non-profit foundation. "It’s time for me to move on from the Mozilla Corporation, where I have enjoyed six years surrounded by incredible people doing incredible things on (and to) the web", said Shaver, adding that he hasn't decided what is next for him.

Shaver was a founding member of the Mozilla organisation in 1998, but left in 2000 for other opportunities. He returned in 2006 but had been involved with the volunteer community around Mozilla in the interim. Shaver promises that he has "lots, lots, lots to say" about his time with Mozilla but that's "for later".

Shaver is the most recent of a number of high profile changes at Mozilla. Last year, five-year CEO John Lilly stepped down, to be replaced by Gary Kovacs, and this year, Firefox director Mike Beltzner stepped down to work for a seismic data analysis company. Beltzner said of Shaver that "I would not have the career I have, nor be the man I am today if not for what I've learned from @shaver".
