Mike Beltzner has announced that he plans to leave his position as Director of Firefox at Mozilla Corporation, once Firefox 4 is released. Beltzner has been with Mozilla since 2005, when he joined the company from IBM to lead the development of user experience on Mozilla projects. He became Director of Firefox in 2008 and has been involved in six major releases of the Firefox browser in his time at Mozilla.

In a personal blog posting, Beltzer explains that he's been "getting antsy" for the past few months and needs to challenge himself by "jumping into an industry he knows nothing about". Beltzner says he will be moving to a company called DownUnder GeoSolutions, a small company that specialises in the field of 2D/3D seismic interpretation and other geological applications.

Beltzner will stay with Mozilla until the long awaited Firefox 4 is released and a smooth transition plan is in place for Firefox 5. He also expects to continue contributing to the Mozilla community after he has stopped working for the Mozilla Corporation.
