Medibuntu logo The Medibuntu developers have updated their repository with additional multimedia packages for the current Maverick Meerkat release of Ubuntu, version 10.10 which was released last Sunday. Medibuntu, an acronym for "Multimedia, Entertainment & Distractions In Ubuntu", is a repository of packages that can't be included in the default Ubuntu distributions for legal reasons, such as copyright, licenses or patents.

These extra packages include, for example, the libdvdcss package from the VideoLan Project and an external binary codecs package, known as w32codecs, used by MPlayer and xine. Instructions for adding the repository to Ubuntu can be found on Medibuntu Community Documentation page.
