Magnolia International has announced the release of version 4.5 of its enterprise content management system (CMS). According to the developers, this update to the Java-based CMS – available as an Enterprise Edition or an open source Community Edition – is the "largest upgrade to date", improving usability and adding a number of new features.

Magnolia CMS 4.5 includes a new framework for multi-channel publishing and support for creating web sites for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. The new version is interoperable with other enterprise applications such as those from Microsoft, Alfresco, SAP and Oracle. Other changes include usability improvements that simplify, for example, page editing, and a new templating API. Supported enterprise standards include HTML5, Java 6, Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) and the current version of the Java Content Repository (JCR 2.0).

More details about the update, including a full list of new features, can be found on the What's New in Magnolia CMS 4.5 page; at the time of writing, the release notes have yet to be published. Version 4.5 of Magnolia is available to download from the company's site as a 30-day trial of the commercial Enterprise Edition or the GPLv3-licensed Community Edition – a comparison chartPDF that lists the differences in the Magnolia CMS Editions is available.
