Swiss vendor Magnolia International has released the free Community Edition version 4.0 of its Magnolia content management system under the GPLv3 licence. The modular system is based on Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE), Java Server Pages (JSP) and on the Java content repository (JSR-170). The company also offers a commercially licensed Enterprise Edition with extended features and professional support.

Among the new features of Magnolia 4.0 is the Standard Templating Kit (STK), a collection of templates designed for easy customisation. The templates are optimised so that the created web pages can be easily found by search engines and comply with the W3C's accessibility guidelines, which should also allow smooth processing with screen readers. The new version contains the Freemarker template editing language, in addition to JSP.

Magnolia 4.0 is available to download from SourceForge free of charge. The Standard Template Kit released under the CPAL licence is available separately and can be downloaded directly from the Magnolia website after a short registration.
