Microsoft and Novell announced their first major bundling of fully supported software since their interoperability pact of 2006, by announcing that they have worked together to make SUSE Enterprise Linux a supported guest operating system on Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V. The announcement comes after the news in August that Microsoft would be investing more in the partnership.

Dell has said that it will be supplying blade servers to support the Windows-Linux virtualisation. The Windows-Linux combination will also be available through a number of other channels, but Dell directly participated in the development work according to Novell. Work on developing the support for SUSE Linux under Hyper-V was carried out at the interoperability lab Novell and Microsoft set up in 2007. Whether the interoperability code would be released as open source was not mentioned in the announcement.
