The Linux Foundation has announced the winners of its annual T-shirt design contest. This year, two shirts were selected by a community vote and will be printed and sold in the Linux.com store. This year's contest required participants to create designs based on the theme "Inspired by Linux".

The winning design by Texas-based Instructional Technology Specialist Brian Beck is an arrow pointing upwards at the head of the person wearing the shirt. Below it are the words "is inspired by Linux". The arrow itself is made up text fragments explaining why Linux is inspiring the person wearing the T-shirt.

The second winning entry by Sabrina Aqil from Italy shows a penguin powering a machine that lifts up different technologies such as rockets, planes and a film camera, representing the many different items in our daily lives that are powered by the Linux kernel in some form or other.

Both designs will be available from the Linux Foundation's store and some will also be on sale at LinuxCon North America. The winners will receive $2,000 and $1,000 towards attending either LinuxCon North America in San Diego or LinuxCon Europe in Spain this year.

The Linux Foundation's T-shirt design contest takes place every year and people from all parts of the Linux Community are invited to submit designs fitting a particular theme related to the open source operating system. The entries are then pre-selected by a panel of judges and a number of them are voted on by the Linux.com community to select the eventual winner, or winners in this case.
