At the JBoss World conference, being held concurrently with the Red Hat Summit, Red Hat has presented the JBoss Enterprise Data Grid early-access program. The new product is said to be a cloud-enabled, highly scalable distributed data cache designed to ease the load on database servers, reduce response times in applications and provide enhanced failure resilience. The technology has been released as version 6 and is based on the Infinispan JBoss community project.

JBoss Enterprise Data Grid has apparently been designed in a way that enables it to offer high-performance direct data access using such cloud capabilities as multi-tenancy, elasticity and distributed code execution. It is based on NoSQL technologies such as Amazon's Dynamo and reportedly integrates accepted enterprise architectures and design patterns.
